A message from our President Dr Johan Roux

CEO -

Dear Tabor Alumni,

It's hard to believe we're already in June 2023. This year has been eventful, to say the least.

We are truly fortunate that Tabor has been sustained thanks to God's grace. The Higher Education sector has faced significant challenges, but Tabor has managed to hold its ground. However, we are aware that our students are feeling the financial pressures and it has affected some of our faculties. On a positive note, our Education Faculty is experiencing a robust growth with a large intake of students. I want to take a moment to acknowledge and appreciate the resilience displayed by our staff and students during these trying times. Their dedication and commitment, both from our academic and support staff, bring me immense gratitude and joy.

On Friday, 26 May, 2023, in a small gathering at the Chapel at Tabor College Millswood, we bid farewell to our beloved outgoing Chair of the Board of Governors, Professor Murray Gillin, and welcomed our new Chair, Dr. John C. Reynolds. The event was attended by board members and esteemed guests, including The Honourable John Gardner.

During the event, we took the opportunity to express our heartfelt appreciation to Professor Murray Gillin for his exceptional stewardship over the years. As the outgoing Chair, Professor Gillin's commitment to the Kingdom, astute guidance, and invaluable insights have played a pivotal role in propelling Tabor forward. We conveyed our deepest gratitude for his selfless service, dedication, and unmatched leadership.

To recognise his remarkable contributions, we presented Professor Gillin with a beautiful parchment adorned with a profound blessing, symbolizing our eternal gratitude for his transformative impact on the Tabor community.

Amidst the heartfelt emotions of bidding farewell, we shifted our focus to the future and welcomed Dr. John C. Reynolds as our new Chair of the Board of Governors. Dr. Reynolds, a distinguished leader in academia and a champion of educational innovation, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to Tabor College.

Currently serving as the President of Los Angeles Pacific University, Dr. Reynolds has taken on this vital role to guide and shape the future of our beloved institution. His outstanding background in education and unwavering commitment to fostering an inclusive and dynamic learning environment fill us with confidence that Dr. Reynolds will lead Tabor College towards great achievements.

Please join me in extending our warmest congratulations to Dr. John Reynolds on his appointment as the new Chair of the Board of Governors. We eagerly look forward to the exceptional accomplishments that lie ahead under his guidance.

It is with sadness that we farewell Dr Phil Daughtry who will be retiring from his position as Dean of Faculty, Humanities and Social Sciences, in early July after 23 and half years of passionate and innovative service to Tabor. Phil has been a blessing and an inspiration to many, and it is with deep appreciation that we celebrate what God made happen through his faithful servant.  We pray Phil all the best for his next season where he will focus more on developing his private practice.

Lastly, I would like to express my gratitude to each and every one of you, our alumni. Your ongoing support, engagement, and contributions have been instrumental in the success and progress of our institution. We are proud to consider you among our most valuable assets, and we look forward to your continued involvement as we endeavour to produce graduates to make a difference for good and for God.

As a final word of encouragement to stay the course, perhaps consider again the wonderful promise of Rom 8:28, and may it shine light on your journey with God for the sake of the Kingdom: ‘And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose’.

Blessings

Johan
