I gazed into a crystal pool
Not a reflection of myself but
A vision of holy mystery
An ocean of compassion
A reservoir of joy
A spring of life.
Mother earth and Father Spirit
Telling me the story of my birth
And place in the womb and weave of creation.
They spoke in the languages of silence
And of dreams
I was privileged to see what Narcissus had missed
Underneath his surface reflection
That which had been glimpsed by the Mothers
And Fathers of the Church.
The glory of God, radiant, relevant, Incarnate
In a human being fully alive.
And the pathway to life through humility
Not pride
The revelation of our smallness
Yet significance in kinship
To that which is vast and timeless
And to all creatures and features of this grand universe.
